10 SPECIAL FIELDS

This section covers special fields and ALEPHINO-specific fields:

10.1 EXTERNAL LINK - FIELD 856/655

The 856 field (MARC; in MAB 655) contains the information needed to locate and access an electronic resource relevant to the record. The external link can be to any machine that is served by an http daemon.

Enter the link in the field 856, subfield u. For example: http://www.exlibrisgroup.com. You can also enter a file in this field, that is on a public server, e.g. PDF-File. It is possible to store these files with a assignment file to a drive, which is accessible for all staff users. In place of "http://" enter this assignment file:///Drive:/

An another alternative is to store the file on the server, on which Apache Web-Server loads. A directory must be openened for these PDF-Files here (e.g. /home/alephino/pdf-doc/). This path have a virtual name (. Alephino-PDF) in the vhost.alephino file (Apache-Installation) . Entry: alias /Alephino-PDF "/home/alephino/pdf-doc". The correct entry for the "doc1.pdf" document is in the 655 Alephino field, subfield u : http://Server Name/Alephino-PDF/doc1.pdf. The Browser will be openened and the Plug-In opens the corresponding file.

The field and/or subfield $u can be repeated.

10.2 853 AND 863 PUBLICATION PREDICTION

The 853 and 863 fields of bibliography record are used to define publication prediction and to create issues for serials. Refer to the Serials module in the Alephino User Guide for an explanation of these fields.
