9 RECALL FUNCTIONALITY

This chapter includes the following sections:

A recall can be initiated in one of two ways:

9.1 RECALL PLACED THROUGH A HOLD REQUEST

The Circulation Librarian can initiate the recall process by creating a
hold request for the item and filling in the Recall Type field (regular or rush). If no value is found there, the default is 03.
If the patron places a hold request from the Web OPAC, the recall type ist not set. The circulation librarian can edit a hold request and enter a recall type. The request automatically receives the recall type set in the www_z37_recall_type variable in www_server.conf. The patron cannot change this recall type.

9.1.1 RECALL AN ITEM FROM THE RECALL FUNCTION IN THE WEB SERVICE MODULE

If your policy is to use recall functionality from the function Recall in Web Service Module / Menu Circulation /Items, it is recommended to run this function every day.

When an item is recalled the following will occur:

New Due Date
The system will calculate a new due date. If it is a regular (not rush) recall, the original patron can keep the item for a minimum guaranteed loan period as set by your System Librarian.

If the new due date falls after the original due date, the original due date will remain in effect, and the patron will receive a letter informing him that the item has been recalled.

If it is a rush recall, the minimum loan period is ignored and the patron must return the item by the new due date, which is calculated according to the recall period in tab16.

Recall Letters
Running the Recall Items on Loan service will generate recall letters for patrons, asking them to return the recalled items.

Update Display
The Items List and the patron's List of Loans will be updated, indicating that the item has been recalled. The old due date will be saved as the original due date

9.1.3 DELETING A RECALLED ITEM'S HOLD REQUEST

There are two ways to delete a hold request. All of them affect the recall:

Librarian Deletes Request
Librarians can
delete hold requests in the Circulation module.

Patron Deletes Request from Web OPAC
The patron can go to the My Library Card screen on the Web OPAC, click on the Hold Requests link and view the list of hold requests that he has made. From there, he can select a hold request to delete.

9.2 ONLINE RECALL

The online recall is done through the Items List in the Circulation module and it is not connected to a hold request.

In the Circulation module, retrieve the item you wish to recall and press the Recall button.

The following screen will be displayed.

Following is an explanation for the fields:

Original Due Date
The original due date displays the current due date.

Recall Due Date
This is the suggested due date set by the system. You may change the date yourself. Note that it is not possible to change the "Recall Due Date" to a date before the current date.

Recall Due Hour
The New Due Hour is not functional in Alephino.

Rush Recall
Check this box to indicate that the recall placed is a rush recall (type 02). In this case, the suggested due date will change.

Press the Continue button to finish the process. The system will generate the related loan recall letters.
